SIMON GRAYSON says he’s been keeping tabs on all the potential League I play-off contenders – but the Huddersfield Town manager insists today’s 16th-placed visitors Yeovil are his immediate priority.
Town and MK Dons, who will go head to head in the semi-finals, are the only confirmed entrants going into this afternoon’s final set of regular-season fixtures.
Sheffield rivals Wednesday and United are scrapping to avoid the play-offs and claim the second automatic promotion place alongside champions Charlton.
Meanwhile Stevenage, Notts County and Carlisle could all clinch the final berth by finishing sixth.
“We’ve scouted all the sides who could be involved in the play-offs, because our intention is to beat MK Dons and at this stage, we could face any of them in the final,” explained the Town boss.
“It’s going to be a very interesting day as teams jostle at the top end of the table, and I’ll be catching up with events as soon as our game is finished.
“While our preparations for the two matches against MK are already under way, we have an important game against Yeovil first.
“It’s one we’re keen to win, because we’re in front of our own fans and we have the chance to go into the play-offs on the back of a second successive home win and on a positive note.”
Town could still seal fourth place, and therefore home advantage in the second leg on Tuesday week, should they beat Yeovil and MK lose at home to Walsall.
But Grayson, whose side will contest the first leg a week today, insisted: “We’re not getting too hung up on which way round the two games are, because we can’t affect any other results.
“We want to beat Yeovil and we’ll see where it takes us, but if that’s to Milton Keynes in the second match, so be it.”
Midfielder Damien Johnson, who was forced off after a clash of heads during last week’s 1-1 draw at Walsall, has trained without problem, and full-back Calum Woods (knee) and illness-hit wideman Danny Ward are also in contention for today’s clash.
Grayson will run tests on keeper Ian Bennett (thigh) and striker Lee Novak (hamstring).
