HUDDERSFIELD TOWN are among the seeds for Monday’s Capital One Cup first-round draw.

Mark Robins’ side feature among 18 in the Northern section, with pairings to be made at 9.30am.

It means they will avoid any of their Championship rivals, but could come up against the likes of last season’s beaten finalists Bradford, Oldham, Bury, Rochdale or one of Robins’ former clubs, Rotherham.

The other Northern non-seeds are Accrington, Burton, Carlisle, Chesterfield, Fleetwood, Hartlepool, Mansfield, Morecambe, Port Vale, Preston, Scunthorpe, Shrewsbury and York.

Seeded alongside Town are Barnsley, Blackburn, Blackpool, Bolton, Burnley, Crewe, Derby, Doncaster, Leeds, Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest, Notts County, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Tranmere, Walsall and Wolves.

First-round ties will take place during the week following the Football League’s opening games on Saturday, August 3.

It’s a change from last season, when cup games were played before the regular campaign started, with Town beaten 2-0 at Preston.

Town, whose manager Robins was a League Cup winner with Leicester in 1997, haven’t got past the second round since 2003-04. That season they beat Derby and Sunderland before losing 1-0 at Reading in the third round.

The second round takes place in the week commencing August 26, the third w/c September 23, the fourth w/c October 28 and the quarter-finals w/c December 16.

The semi-final first legs are w/c January 6, the second legs w/c January 20 and the final at Wembley on Sunday March 2.
