Huddersfield Town are set to face opposition from League I or II in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

The draw will be revealed at 10.00am next Tuesday, and the Football League have confirmed Chris Powell’s team are among the 36 seeds based on final positions in the 2014-15 season, with Town 16th in the Championship.

All 72 Football League clubs for 2015-16 will feature in the first round, which is regionalised.

The two highest placed sides of the three relegated from the Premier League have been omitted in previous seasons.

But West Ham United will compete in Europe as UEFA Fair Play winners and have therefore received a bye to round three of the Capital One (League) Cup.

So too have Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United, who will play in the Champions League, and Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Southampton, who will feature alongside West Ham in the Europa League.

That means Hull City and Burnley will both play in round one, creating 36 ties.

The 12 remaining Premier League sides will enter the League Cup in round two, when there will be 24 ties.

Round three will feature 32 sides.

Next season’s final will be at Wembley on Sunday, February 28 next year.

The first round takes place in the week commencing August 10 and the second in the week commencing August 24.
