HUDDERSFIELD Town have landed Bolton winger Danny Ward on loan – and could pitch him straight into action in tonight’s big League I game at Brentford.

The Bradford-born 19-year-old joined Premier League Wanderers from Leeds in 2009 and has had previous loan stints at Swindon, Town’s visitors on Saturday, and Coventry.

Now the highly-rated teenager, who helped Swindon reach last season’s League I play-off final and signed a new three-year contract at Bolton in September, is joining the Galpharm roster until the end of the season after regaining fitness following a groin problem.

Ward will help fill the void left by Anthony Pilkington’s injury, and with Gary Roberts ready to tackle Brentford after missing Saturday’s 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers through illness and Gary Naysmith back in training after a calf injury, boss Lee Clark is understandably upbeat.

Unbeaten in 15 league games, his side made the automatic promotion places by beating Bristol, and can consolidate their grip on second spot by chalking up a fourth win in five at Griffin Park.

Town hope to process the paperwork in time for Ward to face 14th-placed Brentford, who cannot play loan Town striker Robbie Simpson.

Roberts trained without problem yesterday, and while left-back Naysmith came through the session with no adverse reaction, Clark says he won’t be rushed.

“Gary Naysmith’s experience and quality will be important for us over the run-in, and while we will make sure he’s right before selection, he’s definitely making progress,” said the manager, who will be missing suspended right-back or midfielder Lee Peltier for two more matches.

“Robbo just wasn’t right on Saturday, but he’s looking far better now and I don’t anticipate a problem over his availability tonight.”
