Huddersfield Town have signed free-agent Under 21 goalkeeper George Dorrington.

The 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year deal to work in the Development squad and the club have the option of adding another year.

Dorrington – who was with Manchester United at youth level – had a trial at Town last season and played twice for Frankie Bunn’s title-winning Under 21 side.

Town’s Head of Goalkeeping, Nick Colgan, explained: “George is an absolutely smashing kid and we had a good look at his goalkeeping abilities in the two games last season too.

“He’s a little bit unorthodox, but he keeps the ball out of the net.

“Importantly, his distribution is very good. First and foremost, we want a goalkeeper to make the saves, but given how the Head Coach wants us to play, we need a footballer as well.

“The challenge now is for George to earn a new contract and push his way into Frankie’s thoughts.

“Competition will be fierce between the three in that group, combined with second-year scholar Owen Brooke and first-year scholar Ryan Schofield, who performed excellently in the Under 21 semi-final and final last season.”

Dorrington will work alongside fellow summer signing Luke Coddington and existing goalkeeper Tadhg Ryan.

He has previously had short loan spells at Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers.

His Old Trafford contract expired at the end of last season.
