Huddersfield Town have completed the signing of Norwegian youth international midfielder Sondre Tronstad from IK Start for an undisclosed fee.

The 18 year-old, who was out of contract, has agreed a deal to the summer of 2016, with the club having the options of a further year.

Tronstad made his debut for Start at 16, helping them win promotion to Norway's top flight, the Tippeligaen, in 2012.

He has played 23 times in all. including nine games in the campaign which ended in November, when Start, based in the Southern town of Kristiansand, finished ninth.

He will join Town's first-team squad, taking short number 32, but is expected to start out with the Under 21s, whose next game is against Coventry at the John Smith's on Monday, February 3 (1.00).

Town boss Mark Robins said: “As part of our scouting activity in Scandinavia we watched Sondre on a number of occasions for IK Start as well as on international duty.

"We then invited him to spend a week with us in late November after his season and contract ended and he impressed myself and our staff.

"He has great technical ability and a superb passing range. He’s a central midfielder and is able to play as a deep-lying player or as a more advanced ‘number 10’.

"Sondre is only 18 and we believe he can develop with us. He has a real desire to learn and do well, so we’re excited about working with him.

"We are building a group of young players through a balance of careful acquisition and developing our academy."
