Cristian Lopez has signed a permanent deal for Huddersfield Town.

The contract is subject to international clearance for the 24-year-old striker who has played his whole career in Spain

Lopez has had a successful trial with Mark Robins’ squad, playing a cameo against Real Betis before scoring in last Saturday’s friendly at Oldham.

He passed a medical last night and penned an initial 12-month deal - with Town having the option of a further year.

Lopez is a free transfer to Town after playing for Atletico Baleares.

Boss Robins adds Lopez to fellow summer strike arrivals James Vaughan, Danny Carr, Jonathan Stead and Martin Paterson.

“We want to have cover and competition for places in as many positions as possible and the deal to bring Cristian to the club looks  a very good one, providing we can get it over the line” said Robins.

“Cristian has showed in just a short space of time his raw ability and we believe we can develop him and make him a better footballer.

“He took his goal very well at Oldham and worked tirelessly with and without the ball. He hasn’t had a pre-season, so we will need to get him up to speed before we can get the best out of him.”

Lopez has taken part in every senior training session since being put on the bench against Real Betis last week.

He has impressed all the management at Town with his willingness to work and his aerial ability, not to mention his finishing.
