AS HUDDERSFIELD Town fans savour the release of today’s Championship fixtures, skipper Peter Clarke believes there will soon be transfer activity as well to spice up the summer.

The 31-year-old centre-back will be glued to his computer at 9am today to find out Town’s programme for 2013-14. You can find our fixtures live chat here .

It’s a landmark day for all concerned, coming just over a week before Mark Robins ’ squad return for pre-season training, and Clarke feels it won’t be long before some new colleagues are also added to the mix at the John Smith’s Stadium.

“I know the staff are working very hard and I don’t think it will be long before some new faces are arriving – maybe in the next couple of weeks – and that’ll give everyone a lift,” said Clarke, who has already been training in the Canalside gym.

“The playing staff who are already with us will want to prove their worth, obviously, but I think the end of this month and beginning of July will bring far more movement in the transfer market. I think some supporters might have expected one or two signings to have been made earlier than this, but a lot of players and managers have been away on holiday and there won’t have been time to get everyone together.”

Clarke added: “The fact we didn’t decide our fate until the final match of last season also probably didn’t help to smooth the way, because you can hardly put budgets together and determine transfer targets when you don’t know which division you are going to be in.

“Players will be coming out of contract at the end of this month, too, and I think it will be like the old ‘waiting for a bus’ scenario – one signing will come along and then others will quickly follow.”
