HUDDERSFIELD Town's Alex Smithies says Town’s players are feeling very positive about next season.

The keeper who started every Championship match last term is enjoying a summer break after helping the club survive in the second tier under Mark Robins .

With the squad due to return for pre-season training on Thursday, June 27, the home-grown ace is already looking forward to meeting up with his colleagues at Canalside.

“Pre-season will be massive for us,” said the 23-year-old, whose penalty shoot-out heroics against Sheffield United at Wembley, which helped win promotion the previous campaign, will never be forgotten.

“When a new manager comes in it can take time to adapt to different policies and different ways of playing.

“So a full six-week pre-season with Mark Robins will be fantastic. He will be building the squad as he wants it and implementing his ideas, so I think we are all feeling very positive already.”

Smithies added: “It’s a while since we’ve had a ‘normal’ summer to rest up because of our involvement in the play-offs for three straight seasons, and it’s good.

“We celebrated staying up, then we’ve had a break and now we are looking after ourselves so that we are as strong as possible for pre-season and the next campaign.”

Huddersfield Town will find out their Championship fixture list a week on Wednesday.
