Nahki Wells is under intensive treatment and eager to bolster Bermuda’s World Cup qualification bid.

The Huddersfield Town striker is out of the World Cup qualifying clash in Guatemala, which kicks off at 3.00am on Saturday British time.

But the Bermuda skipper hopes to have recovered from his left ankle injury in time for Monday’s CONCACAF second round, second leg. Wells is backing his international teammates to come through their Central American test without him.

“It’s going to be a tough game, but I know (coach) Andrew (Bascombe) is looking to go down there and come back with a positive result for the home leg,” he said.

“They’re a big team in this region, but that shouldn’t worry us. We usually do better against the top teams.

“The bigger the occasion, the bigger the prize and that should always bring out the best in any player.”

The second leg is at Bermuda’s national stadium in Hamilton, where Bahamas were beaten 3-0 in March. That sealed an 8-0 aggregate first-round win, with Wells notching three of the goals.

The 25-year-old has scored five times in eight internationals during his career.

Guatemala, exempt until this round, have reached the final qualification stage four times but never made the finals.
