Chris Powell has hinted that he may be prepared to draft in another youngster for the final-day trip to Blackpool, but who might get the nod?

Last year's Academy Player of the Year Joe Wilkinson made his full debut for the Terriers in last weekend's eventful 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers and, though he was given a tough test by winger Craig Conway, there was plenty of encouragement to be drawn from his performance .

Wilkinson is one of numerous young Terriers to have featured in matchday squads for Town under Powell this season and made the bench in the 3-1 win at Millwall , as well as travelling to Brighton and Hove Albion alongside Philip Billing as the 19th and 20th men.

William Boyle, who went out on loan to Kidderminster Harriers , was handed a debut in the 3-0 win over Reading and Jake Charles was also given a first-team runout in the 2-0 defeat to Fulham .

But Town fans were keen to see the next generation in the team from the outset and their wish was somewhat granted with Wilkinson's presence in the XI last weekend, with Powell suggesting afterwards that he could look to hand another of his young Terriers the chance to shine.

Saturday's trip to Blackpool is set to be overshadowed by Seasiders fans' planned protests over chairman Karl Oyston's running of the club and the Bloomfield Road pitch has been in a dire state all season long, but which of Town's youngsters is in line for an outing?

Tom Marshall-Bailey assesses seven candidates below.

Lloyd Allinson

The copper-haired goalkeeper may be something of an outside bet given Alex Smithies' determination to secure a 10th clean sheet, but this may be one of the better opportunities to hand him his chance to prove his worth at this level.

He was overlooked for a first-team place when Town lost 2-1 to Leeds United earlier this season as Powell was wary about throwing the 21-year-old into the lion's den of a fiercely-competitive derby encounter, but Allinson will have designs on leapfrogging Joe Murphy in the pecking order soon enough.

Joe Wilkinson

He has made his full debut but now the challenge in front of Wilkinson will be to try and keep his foot in the door and force his way into Powell's plans and he may yet retain his place in the XI should Reece James be ruled out.

Powell has also revealed his intention to give Mark Hudson a rest if possible and that could present an opportunity for the No.39 to give the manager more food for thought ahead of a summer when the club is expected to ramp up their recruitment drive.

Joe Wright

Has featured on the substitutes' bench on numerous occasions this season but has been unable to make the step up onto the field and this is arguably the area where Town are blessed most with options.

But, with a central defender sure to be a priority purchase for Powell this summer, Wright, Wilkinson and Boyle will want to convince him to keep his chequebook closed if possible.

Philip Billing

There is an argument to be had that, but for Oscar Gobern's stunning upturn in fortunes , Billing may have represented Powell's best option in the holding midfield role beyond Jonathan Hogg and loanee David Edgar.

The rangy Dane has top-scored for the Town Under-21's this season with six goals in the Professional Development League 2 and looks ready to make the step up from the second-string outfit but is arguably attempting to come into an area of the team which has blossomed this term.

Duane Holmes

The 20-year-old midfielder appears to be at something of a crossroads at Town and next season will be pivotal to his long-term hopes at the club, having failed to make the desired progress this season.

Mark Robins handed him his Capital One Cup and league debuts in September 2013 and he went on to make 24 appearances in all last term, but he has featured just once - in a 2-0 cup defeat to Nottingham Forest - and a loan spell at League Two promotion chasers Bury did not go as planned so he will be desperate for a chance on the final day.

Jake Charles

Billed as one of Town's big academy hopes, Charles joins Wilkinson as the only player on this list to have received a runout in the league this season and there were some impressive touches during a cameo which featured three minutes plus stoppages.

The grandson of Wales legend John Charles has been recognised internationally and was recently called up to the U21 squad alongside team-mate Joe Wright, who made his debut, with Charles forced to withdraw due to a hip issue but Town fans are eagerly-anticipating more regular involvement for the wideman, who perhaps has less players between him and a first-team spot on the left flank.

Florent Bojaj

The wildcard entry but one that should be treated seriously, because the former Borehamwood Youth striker has proven this season that he has an eye for goal after netting five goals for the development side in league fixtures, with Billing the only player to score more.

He was a key component alongside Charles behind the U18 side which won the Pro Development League 2 title and subsequent play-off final in 2013/2014 and the 19-year-old - who hails from Albania - has adjusted well to the step up this season, offering hope of a genuine attacking threats in Town's reserve ranks.
