Huddersfield Town boss Chris Powell is hoping James Vaughan’s recovery from injury will be speeded up by spending the week at St George’s Park.

The 26-year-old frontman hasn’t figured since Powell’s first match in charge against Middlesbrough last month because of a calf injury and is not expected back soon.

He has spent this week at the Football Association’s national football centre at Burton and Powell believes the change of scenery will have done him good.

“We have sent him to St George’s Park to give him a change because it can become quite monotonous coming in and doing the same things all the time,” said Powell.

“Our head physio, James Haycock, felt it would do Vaughany good to hear a different voice and, of course, they have superb facilities down there which will really push him on.

“There’s an under water treadmill and equipment like that and hopefully it will give James a boost.

“We’ve had regular reports and he is coming along okay, but I wouldn’t like to put a time frame on him because that would be unfair.

“Hopefully, when he comes back next week, we will have some progress and he will have a fresh perspective, because it’s important with his history regarding injuries that we get him to a place where he can finally be a member of the squad.

“It’s important we get it right and he is not rushed. We don’t want him back 99% fit, we want him back 100%”
