Jon Stead is disappointed he hasn’t hit top form with Town and underlined his desire to make the most of a loan spell at Oldham.

The 30-yer-old striker made his debut for the Latics as a second-half substitute in their 1-0 League I win at Swindon and is now getting ready to face his former club Bristol City at Boundary Park on Saturday.

Stead, whose only Town goal this season was the winner against Leeds at the John Smith’s Stadium back in October, says he’s made the move to get valuable game time.

“It doesn¹t matter what level it is, I am hungry to succeed for myself and whoever I am employed by,” said Stead, who returned to Town last summer.

“I have come to Oldham because I want to play. I could have easily sat it out at Huddersfield and not been interested in playing, but I need games. I love the game.

“This is a perfect fit for me to come and express myself – playing in a division I have not really played in. It is going to be interesting and it is an experience I am relishing.”

Stead admits he’s frustrated not to have made more of an impact under Town boss Mark Robins in the Championship.

“Of course, I am disappointed. I wanted to go back to Huddersfield and really make a huge impact,” he explained.

“Apart from the goal against Leeds, I have played little bits and at times I have not been at the best of my form.

“But at other times I have played really well and had no rewards to show for it.

“It has been frustrating. I have wanted to play more football, but they have brought strikers in who have been scoring so I have had to bide my time.

“It got to a point where I was training really, really well and still not getting anywhere near playing.

“So it was obvious to me that the only way I would get games was to go somewhere else.”
