Huddersfield Town are giving a trial to experienced former QPR keeper Brian Murphy.

The move comes with neighbours Bradford City being linked with a move for current Town stopper Joe Murphy.

Brian Murphy, 32, will initially spend a week at PPG Canalside and could figure in Saturday’s opening friendly at Guiseley.

The 32-year-old from Waterford started out at Manchester City and had three years at Swansea City before returning to Ireland with Dublin side Bohemians.

Ipswich Town signed him in January 2010, and he joined QPR during the 2011 close-season.

He never managed to claim a regular spot at Loftus Road, but was handed a new two-year deal in 2013.

Town boss Chris Powell said: “We are constantly looking at players and Brian’s trial period here is in line with that policy.

“Although we have good strength in our goalkeeping at the moment, it is always prudent to look at what is available on the market.

“Brian was recommended to our head of goalkeeping Nick Colgan and we’re happy to have a closer look at him for an initial week.

“He’s not played a lot of senior games over the last few seasons and it will be good to watch him in action.”

Town recruited Joe Murphy, 33, last summer to provide competition for Alex Smithies.

But the former Republic of Ireland international has had to make do with four appearances, two of them in the Capital One Cup.

The ex-Coventry City man was an emergency loan signing for Chesterfield ahead of their League I play-off semi-final, second leg tie at Preston North End.

He featured in the 3-0 defeat which completed a 4-0 aggregate loss for the Spireites.

Bradford released keeper Matt Urwin at the end of last season.

On-loan Sunderland stopper Jordan Pickford made the most appearances between the posts for the Bantams.
