Events at PPG Canalside today will shape Mark Robins’ thinking ahead of Huddersfield Town’s clash with Bolton Wanderers at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.
Town’s boss will run a final rule over the likes of James Vaughan and Joel Lynch for the clash with Dougie Freedman’s side, in addition to centre-back Anthony Gerrard following his early exit from the Reading match last weekend because of a chest complaint.
Robins is determined to make sure performance levels are of a quality to secure only a second Championship double of the campaign – Millwall suffered home and away defeats at the hands of Town – and extra competition for places can only help.
Town won 1-0 at the Reebok back in December, when Oliver Norwood got the only goal after 71 minutes in front of 15,452 – including an enthusiastic travelling contingent of 1,365 blue and white fans who made the journey across the Pennines.
The result brought Town’s third successive victory at the time and it’s that sort of consistency which Robins is eager to produce in this final hectic month of the season.
Welsh international Lynch was in that starting line-up at the Reebok, as was Vaughan before the spate of injuries and illness which have so-far wrecked his hopes of featuring regularly alongside Nahki Wells, whose goal at Reading took his season’s tally to 20 with both Bradford and his current employer.
