Huddersfield Town manager Mark Robins is eager to continue his search for new faces ahead of Saturday’s Championship opener at home to Bournemouth.

Much of the talk before Saturday’s 3-1 friendly defeat at Oldham was of South coast speculation of a new bid by Brighton for Adam Clayton.

But the midfielder played for 80 minutes in Lancashire, where Nahki Wells notched for Town, who host Newcastle in their final warm-up on Tuesday.

Robins, who has been running the rule over free-agent Republic of Ireland defender Sean St Ledger, said: “If we go into the Bournemouth match with the players we have now, then fine.

“But I am still looking for fresh faces to come in and give us a lift, and we’ll see what the week brings and who is in the building by Saturday.

“We need some strength and some depth. We have been trying for a while and we continue to work hard on new signings.”

St Ledger, 29, is available on a free after his release by Leicester, who signed him from Preston in 2011.

Brighton, who had a £1m bid for Clayton rejected in January, have been linked with the 25-year-old since last month.

It’s claimed they have increased their offer for the former Leeds man to £1.5m.

Having sold striker Leo Ulloa to Leicester for £8m, it’s also reported they are also after Bristol City striker Sam Baldock and Wolves defender Stephen Ward.

Republic of Ireland international Ward had a loan spell at Brighton last season.
