Christopher Schindler's departure will be a big blow to 1860 Munich.

That's the view of Münchner Merkur reporter Armin Gibis, who claims the German side will be unable to find another player of his quality to play in the 2.Bundesliga.

Reports in Germany have suggested the 26-year-old is focused on a move to Huddersfield Town, and the 1860 skipper did not join his teammates for the start of pre-season training.

Gibis, who cites the player's leadership skills, strength in the air and defensive attributes among his biggest qualities, says the player and club are both agreed he will depart - the only question left is the exact fee to be paid for his services.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, Gibis said: "Schindler will come to England because he has a dream of playing there, as many professional players do in Germany.

"He has a contract that allows him to quit for a certain amount of money.

"In Munich many regret he is leaving the club because they are losing a good player and a leader. It is the reason why he was elected captain two years ago.

"He had two difficult years when they were fighting against relegation, but Schindler was always one of the best and an example for the whole team because of his fighting spirit.

"As a player he is good in the air and solid with his technique. It will be very difficult to replace him because in the second league where he played you won't find a player in Germany who is as good as he is.

"He plays the ball but he is not a dribbler or a player who is able to play long passes. But his strengths are in the defence and in the air at corners."

Joel Lynch is due to depart for QPR for a fee exceeding £1m , and the club look set to reinvest the money from his sale straight into signing Schindler, an obvious replacement at centre back.

Added Gibis: "The only question is the money. Munich want €2m i think and they have to wait to see how Huddersfield will react.

"He has decided and the club agrees there is no way to keep him. He wants to go to England and he will go."
