Huddersfield Town's transfer business is not over just yet.

Chris Powell will undoubtedly be happy with the players he has brought in so far and how his squad is looking after a busy summer of dealings at PPG Canalside, but there is one position that remains in need of reinforcement.

And that is in central defence, where first-choice duo Mark Hudson and Joel Lynch require added competition and the need simply for numbers is great too, with Murray Wallace the only other central defensive option with regular first-team experience.

But who will the manager turn to in his pursuit of a new centre-back?

Here are 10 potential options.

Carlos Cuellar (Free agent)

The Spaniard is on the lookout for a new club for a second successive summer having been released by Premier League new boys Norwich City following their play-off final victory over Middlesbrough.

At 33, the former Aston Villa man offers a great deal of experience and comes with the added attraction of being able to play at right-back, a position Town may require cover in should Tommy Smith or Dean Whitehead pick up an injury or suspension.

Chris Herd (Free agent)

The Australian international is another free agent having rejected the opportunity to remain at Aston Villa on a three-month deal and he would offer similar versatility to that of David Edgar, who Powell earmarked as being able to cover at right-back, centre-back and in midfield.

Herd is approaching full fitness after suffering a knee ligament injury during a loan spell at Wigan Athletic last season and his career has been beset by fitness setbacks but his ability to play in numerous positions, coupled with his exposure to Premier League football make him a suitable choice.

Brendan Galloway (Everton)

The former MK Dons starlet made his first-team breakthrough at Goodison Park at the back end of last season and many Toffees fans will be keen to see whether he can challenge for a first-team place this season, but the reality is he may need a loan spell first.

Whether Roberto Martinez would be prepared to sanction a move for the 19-year-old to a lower division remains to be seen but he faces stiff competition to make it into the starting XI and would offer protection to Jason Davidson at left-back, having played there for Everton.

Doneil Henry (West Ham United)

The Canadian only arrived at Upton Park in January this year from Apollon Limassol but was quickly farmed out to Blackburn Rovers, where he caught the eye early on before injury cruelly struck and cut short his stay at Ewood Park after just three games.

But he will have attracted admiring glances from other Championship clubs in that time and recently revealed that he hopes to be ready for the start of the new league season after stepping up his recovery from his hamstring issue over the summer months.

Grant Hall (Tottenham Hotspur)

The 23-year-old was highly-coveted by former Town boss Lee Clark last summer and he brought him in at Birmingham City while still in charge at St Andrew's but endured something of a stop-start year.

He was part of the Blues side that lost 4-0 at Wigan Athletic and 8-0 to eventual champions Bournemouth, his final match for the club, before Clark swooped to bring him in at Blackpool.

He appears set for another temporary switch down to the second tier after admitting he doesn't feel part of Mauricio Pochettino's plans following the Argentine's decision to bring in two new central defenders this summer.

Jordan Turnbull (Southampton)

In his first full season of regular first-team football, Turnbull impressed on loan at Swindon Town, racking up some 52 appearances for the Robins in all competitions and is keen on making a push for first-team recognition at St Mary's.

But he is more likely to realise those aspirations by heading out and getting regular minutes under his belt, with a move to a second-tier club expected having shone in League One during 2014/15.

John Egan (Gillingham)

The 22-year-old has flourished at the Priestfield Stadium since moving from Sunderland last summer and was voted the club's Player of the Year award in his debut season with the Gills.

But there are doubts over his future, with just 12 months remaining on the two-year deal he inked after leaving the Stadium of Light and, despite manager Justin Edinburgh's insistence that he will sign a new deal, an offer from a club in a higher division would give the Irishman a decision to make.

Charlie Raglan (Chesterfield)

The Spireites' conveyor belt of talent has produced the likes of Tendayi Darikwa, Sam Morsy and Sam Clucas, players who have all been linked with a move away from the Proact Stadium this close season.

And Raglan, who has enjoyed a meteoric rise up the footballing ladder with Hinckley United and then FC United of Manchester, has also been the subject of speculation with MK Dons and Rotherham United reported to be battling for his signature.

Shane Lowry (Free agent)

The Australian utility man left Leyton Orient after their relegation from League One by activating a release clause, a year after joining from Millwall and at 26, still has plenty to offer.

He came through the ranks at Aston Villa, even though he was unable to break through into the first-team setup and is currently on trial with their city rivals Birmingham City, where he featured against Kidderminster Harriers in a pre-season friendly.

Or... Martin Cranie (free agent)

The 28-year-old left Barnsley due to a contractual dispute and is currently on trial with Town, with Powell believed to have been impressed with what he has seen so far from the former Portsmouth man.

Cranie featured for 45 minutes against both Guiseley and Leyton Orient and would give Powell options in the centre and on the right-hand side of his backline and he may well feel that, having already integrated him into the first-team group, he is worth a shot.
