The transfer window does not officially open until July 1, but there has already been a whole host of Huddersfield Town-related transfer rumours.

From the announcement of the retained list to links with Dean Whitehead and Oscar Gobern's exit, it is shaping up to be another busy summer of dealing for the Terriers.

Manager Chris Powell has made no secret of his desire to strengthen a defence which conceded 75 goals in 2014/15, the fourth-worst total in the Championship.

A left-back is an absolute priority for Town after the release of Jake Carroll and return of Reece James to Manchester United following his loan spell.

And a central defender and central midfielder will also come into focus, particularly after the departure of Gobern.

Check out our gallery above to see the players who have been linked with Town so far since the end of last season and scroll through our timeline below to see the story of the window so far.

We will update the timeline as the summer progresses.

Time Line

Huddersfield Town's 2015 summer transfer window

  1. May 5 - Huddersfield Town announce retained list

Duane Holmes and Ishmael Miller are kept on for another year by Town, but the likes of Jake Carroll and Daniel Carr are released.

  2. May 15 - Spanish striker on the cards?

Town are linked with a move for Numancia frontman Sergi Enrich, but are one of a number of Championship clubs supposedly interested in the 25-year-old, with Bolton Wanderers, Brighton and Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest all in the race to sign him.

  3. May 22 - Billy Knott links

Town are reported to be considering a move for Bradford City midfielder Knott, but that claim is quickly knocked back, with Oscar Gobern nearing the exit door.

  4. May 26 - Move for Swindon defender considered unlikely

Town are credited with an interest in Swindon Town right-wing-back Nathan Byrne, but a move for the 22-year-old is not deemed a priority, with Chris Powell keen to strengthen elsewhere.

  5. June 1 - Town linked with Dean Whitehead

The out-of-contract Middlesbrough man is believed to appeal to Town chiefs due to his free agent status and ability to play in numerous positions and a move is talked up.

  6. June 1 - Town appoint new director of football

Later that day, Town announce that former Wolves head of recruitment Stuart Webber will succeed Ross Wilson in the club's football operations department.

  7. June 5 - Latest Nicky Law links quashed

Rumours of a move for Rangers midfielder Law resurface, but Town are quick to shoot down the prospect of a move for the 27-year-old.

  8. June 8 - Odds cut on move for Norwich City striker

Town line up a move for Canaries hitman Gary Hooper according to reports, with both themselves and fellow Championship outfit Bolton as short as 2/1 to sign the 27-year-old.

  9. June 9 - Whitehead hopes dip and Hooper move ruled out

Bad news on both fronts for Town, with their proposed move for the Middlesbrough man dented by rival interest from Burnley and a swoop for the Norwich striker is made unlikely by his prohibitive wage demands.

  10. June 10 - Charlton Athletic winger not on Town radar

Rumours suggest Chris Powell may look to be reunited with his former winger Callum Harriott, but Town chiefs insist there is no interest in the 21-year-old.

  11. June 15 - League One trio set sights on Gobern

The midfielder's Town career is coming to an end after four years, with third-tier sides Coventry City, Crewe Alexandra and Walsall all interested in doing a deal for the newly free agent, following a breakdown in contractual negotiations with the Terriers.

  12. June 23 - Town make Whitehead their first summer signing

Huddersfield Town land former Middlesbrough midfielder Dean Whitehead on a two-year deal, fending off fellow suitors Burnley in the process as manager Powell admits completing a move was among his "top priorities during this transfer window."

  13. June 25 - Town linked with move for Fleetwood Town striker

Cod Army frontman David Ball is the latest name to be a reported target for Town boss Chris Powell, with the 25-year-old having worked under first-team coach Steve Eyre previously, while Shrewsbury Town's teenage winger Josh Ginnelly is also mentioned as a potential acquistion.

  14. June 26 - Town clinch Jason Davidson capture

Chris Powell makes it two signings in three days with the arrival of former West Bromwich Albion left-back Jason Davidson on a free transfer. The 23-year-old pens a three-year deal to cure a problem position for the Terriers.

  15. July 2 - Championship trio chase Coady

Midfielder Conor Coady's future is suddenly thrown into doubt after divisional rivals Cardiff City, Derby County and Wolves are all mentioned as possible destinations for the 22-year-old.

  16. July 3 - Conor Coady leaves Huddersfield Town for Wolves

The former Liverpool academy starlet leaves the club just 12 months into a three-year deal at the John Smith's Stadium, with Kenny Jackett snapping up a long-term Molineux target in a £2m swoop.

  17. July 6 - Town unlikely to move for Lewis McGugan

Following Coady's exit, Town are linked with a move for Watford midfielder Lewis McGugan, but the rumoured £500,000 fee, coupled with the 26-year-old's wage demands mean a move will be difficult to pull off for Powell's men.

  18. July 8 - Town check Carlisle United midfielder Kyle Dempsey following Coady exit

Town are linked with rising Carlisle United star Kyle Dempsey, but are facing competition from neighbours Barnsley and Championship rivals MK Dons to secure his signature.

  19. July 9 - Joe Wright seals Accrington Stanley loan

Young defender Joe Wright moves to League Two side Accrington Stanley in a loan deal which will run to January 2, with the 20-year-old set to get a good taste of first-team action.

  20. July 10 - Huddersfield Town seal Dempsey signing

Kyle Dempsey of Huddersfield Town meets Chris Powell

Chris Powell completes a £300,000 deal for the highly-rated Dempsey, with the 19-year-old putting pen to paper on a three-year deal after snubbing interest from Barnsley.

  21. July 12 - Town linked with Manchester City striker

Former Walsall loanee Jordy Hiwula is reported to be a target for Town, but competition from the likes of Celtic, Leeds United, Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers offers competition.

  22. July 18 - Town complete Hiwula swoop

After several days of speculation, Town are able to confirm a £150,000 deal to sign Hiwula from Manchester City, with the 20-year-old handed a three-year contract.

  23. July 22 - Town make Martin Cranie fifth summer addition

The former Portsmouth, Southampton, Coventry City and Barnsley defender Martin Cranie seals a permanent move to the John Smith's Stadium on a one-year deal, with the option of another, after impressing on trial.

  24. July 23 - Town fans observe Jordan Rhodes saga with interest

Town stand to pocket a £1.2m windfall from former striker Jordan Rhodes' proposed £14m move to Middlesbrough, although it is later reported that a fee is more likely to be around £12m, with his current club Blackburn Rovers owing £20% of any profit made on the £8m they bought him for back in 2012.

  25. July 24 - Town one of eight Championship clubs targeting Southampton striker

Town are said to be long-term admirers of the talented forward Sam Gallagher, along with Wolves and Middlesbrough, while Blackburn, Bolton Wanderers, Brighton and Hove Albion, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday are also in the mix to snare the 19-year-old on loan.
