ALAN LEE is set for a sharpener at Middlesbrough today as manager Lee Clark continues the countdown to Saturday’s Roses duel with Oldham at the Galpharm.

As it emerged that the club have turned down a six-figure offer for Jimmy Spencer, the striker currently on loan at League II Cheltenham, the boss will take a team to Boro’s Rockliffe Park training complex on Teesside for a lunchtime development match.

Lee, who was an unused substitute for Friday’s sparkling 6-0 win at Wycombe, is likely to be partnered by Danny Cadamarteri as Clark assesses his options for the League I clash with the Latics.

Robbie Simpson, the Town frontman on loan at Oldham with a view to a permanent move, will not be eligible on Saturday.

Academy product Spencer made his 25th Cheltenham appearance in Saturday’s 3-0 FA Cup third-round defeat by Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

The 20-year-old has netted six league goals to help the Robins to third place in the table, form which has attracted another unnamed club.

Sources within Town confirmed an offer had been rejected, with Spencer, who has had previous loan spells at Northwich and Morecambe, extending his stay at Whaddon Road until May.
