Daniel Carr and Cristian Lopez were back on the goal trail as Town Under 21s chalked up a third successive win in the Professional Development League II.

Steve Eyre’s side, unbeaten after four matches, came from behind to beat Sheffield Wednesday 4-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Carr, the summer signing from Dulwich Hamlet, now has five goals as this level and Spaniard Lopez three.

Town fielded experienced duo Paul Dixon and Keith Southern, but couldn’t prevent the Owls going ahead through Franck Betra four minutes in.

But the goal seemed to spark them into life, and Tommy Smith headed straight at the keeper before Duane Holmes played an inviting cross which just needed a touch.

Skipper Matt Crooks and full-back Dixon were off target with shots before the equaliser finally arrived on the half hour.

Holmes’ sliced volley fell at the feet of Carr, who set up Lopez for a straightforward close-range finish.

Wednesday were causing Town problems from set-pieces, and keeper Lloyd Allinson had to be on his toes.

Meanwhile midfielder Southern, playing his first game since picking up a calf injury in pre-season, was getting valuable game time.

The former Blackpool man was a big influence, and Town really stepped on the gas in the second half, when three goals in six minutes sealed the victory.

Lopez claimed his second after Carr’s 58th-minute shot hit a post, then the former Reading junior finished off after good play by Crooks and Lopez.

Holmes then produced a neat cross for Carr to volley home and underline his side’s superiority.

Dale Hopson came close to a fifth, but was denied by the Owls keeper when shooting from 25 yards.

Town: Allinson, Dixon, Wallace, Burke, Smith, Hopson, Crooks, Southern (Leonard, 66mins), Holmes, Lopez (Mullin, 75), Carr (Wilkinson, 85). Sub not used: Wilczynski.
