Huddersfield Town say they have no idea whether claims over opening-day fixtures in the Premier and Football Leagues are correct.

It’s suggested on a rumours website that Town will be at home to Charlton Athletic, manager Chris Powell’s old team, in their first Championship game of the season on Saturday, August 8.

But the John Smith’s Stadium club don’t receive the fixtures until 7.30am on Wednesday, 90 minutes before they are publicly revealed.

And a spokesman said: “It’s impossible for us to comment because we haven’t seen our schedule and won’t do until Wednesday.”

It’s Town’s fourth Championship campaign since promotion was won via the League I play-offs in 2012.

And fans are eagerly-awaiting a list which will include fixtures against relegated trio Burnley, Hull City and QPR.

Bristol City, MK Dons and Preston North End, managed by Simon Grayson, the boss who led Town to promotion three years ago, have come up.

Current manager Powell is looking to build on a seven-game unbeaten run which took Town to a final position of 16th.

Town have lost their last three opening-day games, at Cardiff City (1-0 in 2012), at Nottingham Forest (1-0 in 2013) and at home to Bournemouth (4-0 last year).

Their last first-day victory was 3-0 at Notts County in League I in 2010.

That’s one of only two in the last 10 years, the other coming in League I in 2007, when Yeovil Town were beaten 1-0 at home.

Town will discover their Capital One Cup first-round opponents at 10.00am on Tuesday.
