Huddersfield Town Under 21s claimed a 10th win on the spin – thanks to a Bolton Wanderers own goal at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Centre-back Alex Finney tried to clear Regan Booty’s 67th-minute cross, but could only divert the ball over the line.

Nippy striker Kaiyne Woolery had put Town’s victorious run under threat with a 49th-minute equaliser.

But the Professional Development League II North leaders, who led through Ronan Coughlan’s first-half effort, deservedly edged the game.

And the winning margin would have been greater had Jake Charles’ late shot not hit the right-hand post.

The Wales Under 21 international was teed up by fellow substitute Jack Boyle.

His determination in winning possession and playing in his teammate would have pleased watching head coach David Wagner.

So would Duane Holmes’ persistence for the 40th-minute opener, with the midfielder first surging forward, then regaining the ball after a Bolton challenge.

Town development coach Frankie Bunn again fielded a relatively inexperienced side with keeper Tadhg Ryan replacing Lloyd Allinson and Joe Wilkinson coming in for the suspended Fraser Horsfall.

Sondre Tronstad again played at right-back with Jacob Hanson switching to the centre of defence alongside Wilkinson.

Town were given a decent test by Bolton, who included former Cagliari defender Francesco Pisano and Spaniard Derik Osede, who was sent off in the Championship clash between these two sides at the John Smith’s in September.

Holmes was Town’s most eye-catching performer, with his strong running posing Bolton problems throughout.
