Ever since the football season ended in May I have looked forward to its resumption in August and a particular Red Letter day for me, the release of the Championship fixtures.

Not too much longer to wait, the new set come out on Wednesday, June 22, and I will spend an enjoyable hour or so salivating over them and discussing with my chums which stadiums we will visit.

But the Bristol Post obviously couldn’t wait that long and in an entertaining article polled readers on which stadiums they were most looking forward to visiting – and the least favoured.

Town’s entry does not make for happy reading : “Huddersfield Town: One of the least inspiring trips in the Championship calendar. The John Smith Stadium lacks atmosphere, Huddersfield are unfashionable opponents and Yorkshire is a long way from Bristol. Enough said.”

Ouch.

Although newly promoted Barnsley also get it in the neck, Huddersfield’s is undoubtedly the harshest entry.

Strangely enough my friends and I always visit Bristol for our annual away weekend though to be strictly accurate we actually stay in Weston-super-Mare as an act of homage to TV funnyman John Cleese.

It was our last match of the season so I can remember the experience reasonably clearly despite the inevitable fug of alcohol.

There wasn’t a lack of atmosphere thanks to several hundred Town fans making a racket.

As for fashionable. Something about glass houses and stones...
