Huddersfield Town host Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday night as they look to back up their 4-2 weekend win over Blackpool against the Seagulls.

Manager Chris Powell has challenged his side to prolong the visitors' woeful run of form - which has seen them take just five points from a possible 24 since a 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers at the back end of August.

The Seagulls have also struggled for goals, with their return of just 11 so far only managing to better the bottom two Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers while Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday have the same total.

Sami Hyypia's side have however conceded eight less goals than the Terriers this season with 14 against, a tally only eight teams in the division can boast more in.

Here are the three battles which could decide the meeting between the two teams at the John Smith's Stadium as Town go in search of a fourth win in five league games and three home triumphs on the bounce.

Tommy Smith v Kazenga LuaLua

It is a credit to the young right-back that he has been able to nail down a first-team place there ahead of Lee Peltier and he looks to be flourishing under the tutelage of Powell, himself formerly a full-back.

Smith dealt easily with the threat, or indeed lack of, posed by Spanish winger Edu Oriol for Blackpool at the weekend but despite the Seagulls' tough start, he will come up against a tricky operator in LuaLua on Tuesday night.

The Congolese wideman has pace in abundance and enjoys cutting in onto his favoured right foot from the left flank and has a penchant for both the unexpected and a shot from range.

One of the primary gripes with Seagulls fans about his performances has been his at times inconsistent showings, which appears to have manifested itself in the team's lacklustre opening to the campaign.

But despite his occasionally erratic end product, he is capable of producing something from nothing - epitomised by his status as the top assists creator so far this term - and Smith will have to be on his guard to thwart him.

Harry Bunn v Inigo Calderon

The boy can do no wrong at the moment, scoring twice against Blackpool the other day to take him to the top of the Town goalscoring charts in terms of league goals.

With Town expected to take the initiative as the home side, Bunn will be tasked with exposing the Spanish defender's tangible lack of pace, but he will equally be required to track back in the same manner he did against Blackburn.

That is because the Spaniard enjoys a raid forward and has already contributed one assist so far this season by teeing up Craig Mackail-Smith to score in the 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers.

With Joao Teixeira likely to be absent after suffering a whack to the head in the weekend defeat to Middlesbrough and his probably replacement Paddy McCourt likes to cut inside and get involved with play.

There will be an emphasis on Calderon, then, to provide the width to Albion's attacks on the right. It is something Bunn must be wary of but can also capitalise on further upfield.

Grant Holt v Gordon Greer

Who will win the physical battle between Grant Holt and Gordon Greer?

Holt bullied a fellow physically-imposing figure in former Terrier Peter Clarke on Saturday and he will surely relish the battle once more, this time against Albion's own defensive rock Greer.

He found the net against Boro and provides a true threat from set pieces, as does central defensive partner Lewis Dunk, and it would not be surprising to see Holt back at corners to help his side clear their lines.

It promises to be a similarly uncompromising duel between these two but if Holt can ruffle feathers in the manner he did against Pool, then Greer could be in for a tough time.

The Town frontman will know, regardless of whether or not he is partnered by Nahki Wells up front, that the Scot knits together the Seagulls' backline and by therefore unsettling him, it will cause uncertainty elsewhere.

Flanked by Bunn and Sean Scannell, Town must take to the game to a Albion side who can be expected to be slightly nervous and apprehensive at facing one of the in-form sides in the division.
