Huddersfield Town go in search of a fourth win in five league games and a third consecutive home win for the first time in four seasons at home to Brighton and Hove Albion this evening.

Manager Chris Powell has challenged his side to prolong the visitors' woeful run of form - which has seen them take just five points from a possible 24 since a 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers at the back end of August.

The Seagulls have also struggled for goals, with their return of just 11 so far only managing to better the bottom two Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers while Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday have the same total.

Sami Hyypia's side have however conceded eight less goals than the Terriers this season with 14 against, a tally only eight teams in the division can boast more in.

And here is everything you need to know about the game as Town go for a third home win on the bounce in the Championship.

Kick-off

Huddersfield Town v Brighton and Hove Albion (7.45pm)

The likely line-ups

Huddersfield Town (4-3-3): Smithies; Smith, Hudson (capt), Lynch, Robinson; Butterfield, Hogg, Coady; Scannell, Holt, Bunn.

Brighton and Hove Albion (4-3-3): Stockdale; Calderon, Greer (capt), Dunk, Bennett; Gardner, Holla, Forster-Caskey; McCourt, Baldock, LuaLua.

Team news

Huddersfield Town: Terriers boss Chris Powell has a largely clean bill of health with Martin Paterson the latest to return to full fitness by making a second-half appearance as a substitute in the 4-2 win over Blackpool on Saturday.

James Vaughan (calf) and Joe Lolley (hip), however, are still sidelined.

Brighton and Hove Albion: The Seagulls travel to the John Smith's Stadium without the services of defender Bruno Saltor (groin) and striker Craig Mackail-Smith (hamstring), while Portuguese teen Joao Teixeira remains a doubt after suffering a head injury in a 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Paddy McCourt is set to enter the fray for his first Championship start for the club while Rohan Ince is also pushing for a recall to the starting XI.

Ones to watch

Huddersfield Town: Sean Scannell - The winger's fine recent form culminated in a stunning showing at home to Blackpool as he terrorised full-back Joel Dielna, who was duly substituted off, after having a hand in each of his side's three goals in the opening 16 minutes.

He has enjoyed an amazing upsurge under Chris Powell's stewardship and he will fancy his chances against the attack-minded Joe Bennett.

Brighton and Hove Albion: Lewis Dunk - The Albion academy graduate is surprisingly the Seagulls' top scorer so far this season with three goals and his threat from set pieces could be key tonight.

He is also adept at bringing the ball out of defence and helping to get his side's passing game going from the back. The 22-year-old has probably been the Seagulls' best player so far this term.

What the bookies say

The visitors are considered the slight favourites to secure all three points this evening at 6/4 while Town are 9/5 and the draw is at 23/10.

The shortest odds on a scoreline fall in a 1-1 draw at 6/1, with a 1-0 Albion win at 17/2 and the same scoreline for Town is 9/1.

Brighton's best bet for a goal - Mackail-Smith - is ruled out with a hamstring injury and therefore summer signing Sam Baldock, who has yet to score for the Seagulls, is an 11/2 shot while Nahki Wells and Harry Bunn (5/1) and Grant Holt (11/2) are Town's top bets.

Last time they met

The two sides met in April this year when the visitors came from behind to secure a share of the spoils thanks to Bruno's second-half leveller.

That stretched the Terriers' winless run to 10 league games, with former Town midfielder Oliver Norwood's sixth-minute free-kick cancelled out.

The reverse meeting saw Town become the first team to prevent the Seagulls from scoring at home in the 2013/2014 season as it finished 0-0 at the Amex Stadium.

Match facts

Head-to-Head

- Brighton are unbeaten in the last four meetings between the two teams, and have won two of those. Huddersfield's last win in this fixture was the final-ever match at the former Withdean Stadium, when Benik Afobe struck twice in a 3-2 win in League One in April 2011.

- However, Hyypia's side have come out on top in just one of the last six meetings at the John Smith's Stadium. Their only win there since 2006 was 2-1 in November 2012.

Huddersfield Town

- Town are aiming for four wins from their last five league games. Prior to the 2-1 win over Millwall, their last four league wins stretched from the 5-0 home win over Barnsley last March and the 2-1 success at Reading earlier this term - 17 games in total.

- The Terriers can secure their first trio of consecutive home league wins for the first time in four seasons with victory this evening.

Brighton and Hove Albion

- Brighton have won only one of their last nine games in all competitions. Their only win since 26 August was 3-0 at Burton Albion in the Capital One Cup on 24 September.

- The Seagulls are unbeaten in their last three away games in all competitions, winning one. Their last defeat on the road was 2-0 at Ipswich Town in the Championship on 16 September.

What the managers say

Chris Powell: "I suppose they might say they haven't got going yet.

"They have got some very good players but I am sure they will feel that they should be better off.

"I am sure they will get there - they are a side who are well backed, superb facilities, good chairman and I know the coaching staff there.

"It hasn't happened for them yet, and it's up to us to try and keep it that way."

Sami Hyypia: "Huddersfield are a typical Championship side, they try to compete with high tempo.

"I know that they won’t give up, so we need to have a high level of performance for 90 minutes and then we have a chance."

Man in the middle

Gary Sutton (Lincolnshire): A league referee since 2005, Sutton took charge of Town’s Capital One Cup first-round 5-3 win at Chesterfield in August.

That was one of 11 matches he has officiated this season, with 34 yellow cards and no reds shown to date.

Tom says

"On paper, this represents the perfect game for Town straight off the back of the convincing showing against Blackpool but manager Powell has been quick to dampen too much optimism.

"But certainly, Terriers fans approach this in much better spirits than Albion supporters, who have seen their side go eight league games without a win under Sami Hyypia, who is already feeling the pressure.

"It will be an intriguing encounter for so many reasons and Powell is rightly wary because the Seagulls' league position is not befitting of a side who have reached successive play-offs in the last two years.

"If Town are to avoid a case of after the Lord Mayor's show, then they must start with the same vibrancy and intensity which put Blackpool to the sword in the early stages on Saturday.

"If they do, they are more than capable of causing damage to a wounded Brighton side."
