HERE are Doug Thomson's player ratings:

ALEX SMITHIES

Not a good day for the out-of-sorts stopper, who should have saved two of Leeds four goals. 5

JACK HUNT

Busy at the back and often frustrated going forward, it wasnt a memorable 100th Football League game. 6

JOEL LYNCH

Took over at left-back from Paul Dixon and competed strongly until forced off by a hamstring injury. 6

ANTHONY GERRARD

Worked hard after being recalled for a first start in seven games and won the penalty. 6

PETER CLARKE

The Town skipper made some important tackles and blocks but like his team, wont be happy at conceding four. 6

SCOTT ARFIELD

Had the odd encouraging moment, but in general, struggled to get the better of the Leeds full-backs. 5

ADAM CLAYTON

Clearly pumped up against the club who let him go, the midfielder was among Towns better performers. 7

CHRIS ATKINSON

An encouraging performance and a first Town goal on only his third start for the club and sixth appearance in all. 7

ALAN LEE

Responded enthusiastically to being handed a first start of the season and gave the Leeds defence problems. 7

SIMON CHURCH

No shortage of running and effort, but the Reading loanee was unable to make any real impression. 5

DANNY WARD

Made a strong start and forced an early save from Kenny, but faded as the game wore on. 5

Substitutes: Calum Woods (for Lynch, 56mins) 7; James Vaughan (for Lee, 63) 5; Adam Hammill (for Arfield, 75) 5. Not used: Oliver Norwood, Sean Scannell, Lee Novak, Ian Bennett.

HURTS to say it but we were beaten by a better team, no-one played well and some were very poor. Need someone to lift us. Vaughan back might help but not with Church, who contributes nothing in my opinion. Roger, Menston

A poor display by Town, but Leeds were not two goals better.

David, Kirkburton

We completely capitulated in the second half. What I want to know is how did hundreds of Leeds fans manage to get a block of seats together in the top deck of Riverside? Walt, Northants

The key moment was when Smithies made the mistake for their first goal. Keith, Dewsbury

We did not make use of the space as well as them and we seemed to lose momentum when Lee was subbed instead of ineffective Church. We must not lose heart after all it was not a season-defining match, although it is never good to lose to Leeds. We would all have accepted this position at this time last year. David, Mirfield

Poor team selection and substitutions did not help, but it was a sloppy and gutless performance from too many players. Leeds showed us how to pass the ball properly to your own players. We must play much better than this to prosper in this division.

Tony, Liversedge

Poor team selection, such as Lynch at full-back and Scannell only on the bench. Also having Church and Ward in the squad, and not playing Novak. Brian, Brighouse

Disappointing! The only glimmer of hope were the performances of Atkinson and Clayton.

SPH, Almondbury

Key moment: Smithies mistake letting them back in to the game. Cuckooology, Huddersfield

Grayson is a great managerial appointment, but, oh dear, he leaves Scottish international full-back Dixon out of the squad? Sorry Simon, you got that one wrong due to the effect on the rest of the defence!

Martin, Outlane

Unfortunately we were given a footballing lesson in passing, shooting and playing as a team, only Chris Atkinson and, to a lesser degree, Jack Hunt and Adam Clayton emerged with any credit. James, Sheffield

We were non-existent as an attacking force in the second half. Town are on a very slippery slope at the moment. Jas, Holmfirth

The key moment was substituting Alan Lee, the Leeds defence couldn't cope with him. There were too many other players not putting a shift who should have gone off instead Danny Ward, Church to mention just two. Peter

We started reasonably well, good piece of football and smart finish to score first goal. We sat back and following the howler from Smithies we got what we deserved. Second half we were never in it. We must learn to keep the ball better and compete physically with opponents. We need to strengthen our midfield area and solve our injury situation for the front players. Not sure about Beckfords injury and Vaughan just did not look fit at all. It irks me to say this but Leeds were a far better organised side than we were. Gary, Malton

Started well, think the substitutions were poor Alan Lee was having a great game and Church did nothing all game. Jason, Mirfield

Shocking! We let Leeds have the game and didnt compete after first goal. BrigDave, Brighouse

Town lost this game in the second half. It was a poor decision to leave Dixon out as our defence had no shape. Leeds deserved their victory. Town were never really at the races. Church was anonymous. We need to spend some of the £8m in January.

Paul, New Mill

Good start to the game from Town until Smithies’ howler, but then in the second half Leeds controlled the game. Very poor in that second half, only Lee can take credit from the performance. Simon, Salendine Nook

We only played for 45 minutes I am afraid. Church, Ward, Arfield did not turn up. Jonty Rhodes

Town simply didn't match Leeds in all departments and only Alan Lee and Jack Hunt played anything like they are able. We just didn't compete after Lee was substituted. Rob, Lindley

Sorry, but some of the players aren’t good enough and we need players on the pitch not in the treatment room. Come on Dean, they are making mugs of us. Steve

Oh dear, when I saw the teamsheet I thought we are in for a hard afternoon, then I was pleased by our opening performance, but my, oh my, the second half we collapsed, no drive, no heart, no passion and why Alan Lee was taken off is a mystery. Thank goodness we have Bristol, Ipswich and Barnsley in our league. Time for a rethink on some of our loan players. Trojanhorse, Kirkburton

Never turned up for the second half. Very disappointing that the players didn't seem to have the seem passion as the fans did! Tony, Golcar

No desire from the players apart from Chris Atkinson and subs that were made were the wrong ones.

Ryan, Honley

Time to give Smithies a break for his own good as he's not been consistent enough this season. Why was Church kept on when he offers nothing and has done nothing since he arrived and Lee who was working hard and causing Leeds problems taken off? This and playing Arfield on the left were errors from Grayson, but the best side won regardless.

Mark, Kirkburton

Too many passengers and no passion from Airfield, Ward, Church and Hammill. Why take Lee off and leave Church on, we should bring on Scannell not Hammill. Atkinson did well. Smithies still does not fill me with confidence. David, Huddersfield
