Mark Robins says Huddersfield Town must be wary of the new manager effect when Millwall visit the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

The struggling South London club will have Ian Holloway in the dug-out for the first time – and are hoping he makes an instant impact.

Robins, who could have top scorer James Vaughan in contention for a return from injury, is a big admirer of the experienced 50-year-old.

Holloway is back in the game 11 weeks after leaving Millwall’s neighbours Crystal Palace by mutual consent, saying exhaustion was a factor.

He bossed Blackpool, Leicester, Plymouth, QPR and Bristol Rovers before that, and Robins said: “Ian’s a good manager and a good man. He will bring a lot of experience to Millwall, he has had plenty of success in the past, and in my view, they already had a decent squad.

“You always tend to get a reaction when a new manager arrives, and Ian could even have brought in some new faces by Saturday.

“His appointment certainly adds another element to the match, but we are the home side, and it’s down to us to dictate what happens, whatever players we are facing.”

In a rut under sacked Steve Lomas, fourth-bottom Millwall are without a win in five league games and six in all competitions.

Striker Jermaine Easter is suspended after his red card in Saturday’s dismal 4-1 FA Cup third-round defeat at League II Southend.

Vaughan, on target 12 times so far, has missed 13th-placed Town’s last four matches because of a knee injury.

Robins explained: “James has been doing some running, and hopefully he will be able to return to normal training this week. We’ll monitor him closely and see how things look on Friday.”

The 25-year-old last played in the goalless draw at Brighton on December 21 – in his absence, Town have won two, drawn one and lost one, with Martin Paterson notching five goals.
