But what did you make of the game?

Below are the ratings from Examiner Huddersfield Town reporter Doug Thomson with the fans' ratings on page two.

ALEX SMITHIES
Solid for the bulk of the game and made a great reaction save late on to preserve a point and a clean sheet. 7

MURRAY WALLACE
Sometimes caught in possession, but in general, the full debutant made a good fist of playing left-back. 7

JACK HUNT
Stuck at it, but was given a tough test by Wednesday’s left-footers before being forced off with a knee injury. 6

ANTHONY GERRARD
Influential throughout, with strong tackles and firm headers to help nil a side for the first time in nine games. 8

JOEL LYNCH
Used his physique to work well alongside Gerrard and quell the threat of some tricky and physical frontmen. 7

ADAM CLAYTON
Started on the right before moving infield. Played some decent passes but he has had better games. 6

KEITH SOUTHERN
Skipper in place of Peter Clarke, he showed his experience with a useful midfield display 7

CHRIS ATKINSON
Handed a third start of the season, he was prominent in the opening phases but faded and was substituted. 6

ADAM HAMMILL
The Wolves loanee made a fifth Town start and looked desperate to do his bit. Decent but not spectacular. 7

JERMAINE BECKFORD
Didn’t get too much service, and didn’t get much change out of big centre-backs Llera and Gardner. 6

SIMON CHURCH
Could have marked his seventh, and probably last Town game with a goal, but couldn’t beat Kirkland. 6

Substitutes:
SeanScannell(forAtkinson, 61mins) 6;
JamesVaughan (for Church, 61mins) 6;
Paul Dixon (for Hunt, 69mins) 6.

The good news is another point towards maintaining our Championship status. The bad news having to watch this mindless tactic of hoofball against a team with two metre tall defenders.Learn from the advice of the late great Brian Clough put the ball on the ground and play football. In order to stay at this level we have to improve. Tony,Liversedge

A bit better than Wednesday but not a lot. Poor service to strikers means goals will be hard to come by.A clean sheet a bonus - and surely there has to be some severe sanction for the referee! Roger, Menston.

Another indifferent performance from Town. We look a shadow of the side who started the season off so well. Nigel Bradford

Serious concerns that we do not have enough ability or nous to stay in this division. Awful game between two sides that looked as though they would struggle in Div 2 never mind the Championship. Grayson needs to bring in some quality, but then play them in their correct positions. He should take responsibility for clearly having no game plan over the last few weeks and subjecting fans to the garbage being served up. Steve, Lepton

Slightly better performance, but Beckford, Church are not the answer, no where near enough effort from either. Del, Meltham

The ref should be sent back to primary school for a refresher on how to read and count. The incident must be a prime candidate for "what happened next" on QOS. James, Sheffield

Absolute dire performance. Can't pass, can't tackle, they made Wednesday look almost average. By the way, it wasn't a penalty but it wasn't a dive either. Archie, Moldgreen.

Smithies yet again failed to command his area or give quick distribution. Southern couldn't pass at all today. However, the main talking point is how a professional referee can book the same player twice without his assistants help. JJ, Lowerhouses

Both teams looked like League One sides and the referee looked like a Sunday Pub League referee! We've got to improve and very quickly, Tony, Golcar

Simon! Just take a quick look at the HTAFC fans' unofficial web-site; there's a lot of sense and suggestions on there to help solve the current malaise! Please! Martin, Outlane

3 matches to save his job ironic if he gets sacked the day Lee Clark returns. GB, Holmfirth

Why do we start with our best midfielder on the left wing, Dixon should start, no need to worry yet, plenty below us. Colin, Lepton.

Once again lacking in basic passing skills. Hunt is now getting beaten too often. Lets look at bringing in a RB and switching Hunt to the wing. We need a consistent midfield who link with the forwards. Beckford was getting some stick but he needs the service and quality crosses. Smithies is too slow at distributing the ball and then it's back to a long punt against the tallest defenders in the league. Why was Church included? At least with Novak, not the best of players, you get 100% commitment. Hammell runs like a headless chicken and tries to beat everybody and does not look up. Lets hope we have seen the last of Church & Hammill. David, Huddersfield.

Smithies rooted to his line. Stop drinking water and picking up your towel every 2 minutes! Hunt - doesn't get forward enough anymore. Temprament issues too. Was that 4th or 5th booking today? Wallace - played out of position and first touch let him down too often. Good prospect though, give him a go in the middle. Gerrard & Lynch - reasonable partnership I think. Lynch took some blows for the team. Clayton - much better when moved into the middle, why did Grayson start him on the left wing? Southern - put a shift in but bottled a 50/50 on 70 minutes and looked spent after that - again! Atkinson - did okay but 4 man midfield does not leave room for 3 centre mids in my opinion. Hammill - deserved place in starting line up after 2 good sub appearances. MOTM for me. Beckford - didn't get much out of game and looked sulky as a result. Church - tried hard (harder than Beckford) but it's not happening for him. Scannell - should have been in starting line up. Could have turned their big fellas inside out with pace and footwork. Mistake by Grayson as looked threatening when he came on. Vaughan - won some headers and did okay. Should have scored near the end. Dixon. Out of position on the right and missed a 50/50 but should still be in the starting 11. NDancer, Huddersfield.

Against a big side like Wednesday we still hoof the ball upfield instead of playing it on the ground we need a win somewere. Send Church back. Pete, Lindley

Two points lost, Wednesday were there for the taking but again we have no plan or visible tactics. Our lack of goals is a real worry and with the proven quality of our strikers it's clear that lack of service from midfield is the problem. Trojanhorse, Kirkburton

Oh dear, no hope if the officials cannot even get the basics right, two bookings TO SAME PLAYER, at least five times throws given wrong way. we MUST strengthen a s a p. again I ask for players to be played in correct positions (performance matches should be used for experiments ) David, Mirfield
