Leading scorer James Vaughan has every chance of being fit to spearhead Huddersfield Town’s home assault on Wigan Athletic this Saturday.

The 25-year-old frontman missed the 5-1 derby defeat at Leeds United because of a knee injury and, due to suspension and the leg problem, has featured only three times in the last two months.

But the 12-goal marksman trained without problem at PPG Canalside yesterday, when he was joined in returning to the full squad by midfielder Jonathan Hogg and defender Joel Lynch.

Boss Mark Robins was delighted to see all three of them back, in addition to Oscar Gobern, Paul Dixon and Anthony Gerrard who picked up knocks at Elland Road.

“I’m not counting any chickens because there are still a few days to go to the Wigan game,” said Robins, “but hopefully everyone will be available for selection and that would be good.

“We had a positive session in training yesterday, although Martin Paterson missed out through illness, and I felt it was important not to dwell too much on what happened in the second half at Leeds and focus on moving forward.

“Yes, we have to remember the pain of it and make sure we learn from what happened, so that we don’t give other teams a way back into matches when they have been totally nullified by our football.

“But it’s also important we keep things in perspective and recognise that a lot of what we are doing at the moment is good and needs to be built upon.

“I’m well aware we are having a bit of a barren spell in terms of points at the moment, but apart from the second half on Saturday we have been playing a lot of good stuff and I don’t want us to become anxious about moving on.”

Robins doesn’t know when Paterson will return to training, but Adam Hammill is responding to treatment for the knock he took in the FA Cup defeat by Charlton.
