Huddersfield Town fell to a disappointing defeat against Premier League champions Chelsea at the John Smith's Stadium this evening.

Tiemoue Bakayoko's 23rd minute goal sent Antonio Conte's side on their way to a comfortable win as David Wagner's men hardly threatened Thibaut Courtois goal.

Brazilian midfielder Willian, a constant nuisance throughout, doubled the lead before the interval with a header before then turning provider for Pedro to hammer home a third.

The home faithful were phenomenal throughout and their loyalty was eventually rewarded when second-half substitute Laurent Depoitre headed in a late consolation.

Next up is a trip to Vicarage Road to face Watford on Saturday where head coach Wagner will be hoping for a much-improved performance than tonight.

Here we'll hear from both Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte as they reflect on this evening's Premier League clash.

Match Report...

And on that note, I am signing off from this Live Blog, but not before I leave you to have a perusal of Rory Benson’s match report from tonight’s game.

To the point...

That’s it from boss David Wagner - short and to the point from the German head coach....

On Chelsea strength...

Before the first goal it was very much like the games against Manchester United and Manchester City - we limited their chances.

But we gave two easy goals away - that is the difference tonight as well as the fact we scored the first ones.

On Jonathan Hogg...

He had a migraine and couldn’t see the ball under the floodlights - we hope he will be alright.

On keeping the score down...

We were able to stay in the game after the third goal and we got the goal but we have to over-perform to get a result...

  • Share

On Chelsea....

I think we performed on an average level and we have to perform above level to get a result.

Our defensive was good in the first-half, we frustrated them but then we conceded a very sloppy goal and then we went two-nil down.

Our concentrate and focus needs to be better and we need to over-perform - the third was similar, a second phase goal.

Then our players showed good character to get their goal but we have to give credit to Chelsea.

Next up is David Wagner to face the press....

On Chelsea negativity...

We have 14 points less than Manchester City - I am only being truthful about our title chances.

We have only lost four games but it is still very difficult to challenge for the title.

It is bulls**t and I would rather tell the truth and a very good lie - perhaps sometimes I am too honest.

It doesn’t mean I don’t want to try to catch them but we have to win nearly every game in a very difficult league.

On Tiemoue Bakayoko

Maybe tonight I have seen the best performance from him - he is only young and this type of performance will improve his confidence.

He is starting to understand he is in a club like Chelsea and he is showing me he has the desire to improve himself.

If I didn’t trust him he would not have been starting tonight...

On Huddersfield Town's home form...

This is a big win because on paper maybe West Ham United would have been easier than Huddersfield Town but we lost against West Ham and won against Huddersfield.

To win away to Huddersfield is not simple....

  • Share

On Manchester City...

When they are in the form they are in it is difficult to remain positive - in the last games we have won seven of them.

They are having a fantastic path and we can only go game-by-game and this league is extremely competitive.

We must only look at ourselves and try to improve.

On enjoying the game...

Tonight my players enjoyed the game with a lot of positive things and a few negative things - particularly to concede at the end of the game.

But there were some good attacking play and combinations throughout....

  • Share

On the win...

We must be very happy with the performance - from the first whistle we showed our personality and will to win the game against a very good side who have already beaten Manchester United.

It will improve our confidence after the defeat at West Ham United - I think despite that loss we are doing well in the league.
