Mark Robins is looking forward to charting Duane Holmes’ progress at Yeovil over the next month.

While left-back Jake Carroll has linked up with League II Bury on loan – the Shakers head to AFC Wimbledon this afternoon – midfielder Holmes is in line to make his Glovers debut against Doncaster at Huish Park.

It’s a 28-day stay for the 19-year-old, who has made one Town start and 13 appearances from the bench.

While Yeovil are hoping he will boost their battle for Championship survival, Robins is keen to see the American-born, Normanton-bred player gain valuable experience.

“Duane is not playing here at the moment, so it is better for his development to go out on loan and play some games,” explained the manager.

“For that to be happening in the Championship is great for us and great for him, and it gives us an indication of where he is at.

“I spoke to (Yeovil manager) Gary Johnson prior to Duane going there and he assured me he will get minutes on the pitch.

“It would have been very easy to keep him here because he is in and around things, but you need young players to make that next step.

“To do that, he needs to play more regularly than he is doing here at the moment.

“He has an opportunity to play regularly in the Championship and hopefully he will take it.

“Duane is young and is learning the ropes and needs to be looked after. We do that here, and Gary will do that down there.

“Yeovil is a decent place for him to go. They play decent football.”
