Huddersfield Town Academy midfielder Sam Warde has been called up to the Republic of Ireland’s Under-18 squad for an international friendly against England.

It's a first international call for Warde, who is in the second year of his scholarship and has already made his Town u21 debut.

And he'll be hoping to catch the eye when Paul Doolin's side face their England counterparts behind closed doors at St George's Park on Sunday 27 March (12.30pm kick off).

This is Warde's second season with Town after joining from Mungret Regional ahead of the 2014/15 campaign, and he is set to be rewarded with an offer of a pro deal in the summer.

Doolin said: "It's a good game for the players born in 1998. We had the games against the Czech Republic before Christmas and we've a lot of similar players involved plus some new ones.

"They played each other in the UEFA U17 Finals in Bulgaria last year but both sides have a few new faces involved. It'll be a tough game and good test for the players.

"We'll prepare, train and do the analysis the same way as we would for a competitive game. I wouldn't expect anything less from myself or the staff. It's an opportunity for players to get a good experience at this level of the game."
