Huddersfield Town's Calum Woods was delighted to get a start against Doncaster but frustrated it wasn’t in a winning cause.
The 26-year-old Liverpudlian showed up well on the right hand side of boss Mark Robins’ formation and helped Town pick up a point before tomorrow night’s cut-price home clash with Charlton at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Woods said: “I think we had the better of the chances overall and we could have come away with the win, but on the plus side we’ve done well to keep a clean sheet.
“The manager wanted us to get it down and pass it in our 3-5-2 formation and we were trying to get the ball down, get it out wide and play through them.
“We ended up changing it and although we were still trying to pass it when we could, we could also go a little bit more direct.”
Woods paid tribute to second-half sub Jon Stead, who enabled Town to take control for decent spells after Donny had had the better of the first half in front of 13,102.
“Steady did really well when he came on; he made a big difference,” said Woods.
“He created a couple of chances and he was a bit unlucky not to get an assist.”
Woods felt Town should have made the second-half superiority tell.
“We’re disappointed we haven’t got all three points because we had a few good chances to win the game,” he said.
“I know they had a couple in the first half; more than we did coming into half time, but we’re all frustrated.
“You want to picking up maximum points at home, but unfortunately it didn’t happen for us.”
Woods tweeted he was ‘buzzing’ to be back after his injury problems.
“I’m buzzing to be fit again, because it’s been a frustrating start to the season for me,” he explained.
“I did my shoulder in pre-season and missed all the games, came back and made a couple of substitute appearances and then picked up a slight thigh strain.
“To start and get 90 minutes has done me the world of good fitness-wise.
“It was my first start of the season and the manager just asked me to go out and put in a performance in, to defend and then get forward when I could.
“I’m happy to play anywhere; as long as I’m playing, and it just felt good to get through a full 90 minutes.”
On tomorrow’s clash with Charlton, Woods added: “We’ll be targeting three points. We’ve already played them once this season (in the Capital One Cup), so both teams know what they’re coming up against.”
