Mark Robins says he wants Huddersfield Town’s young talents to shine through pre-season.
The boss has included Daniel Carr, Jake Carroll, Matt Crooks and Jordan Sinnott in his 26-strong party for the club’s Spanish training camp.
Striker Carr, 19, has signed from non-league Dulwich Hamlet and left-back Carroll, 21, from Irish club St Patrick’s.
Sinnott, last week handed a new contract through to 2015, made two starts and a substitute appearance last season as well as skippering the Under 21s to the Professional Development League II play-offs.
His fellow midfielder Crooks, also 19, is expected to push for first-team inclusion at some stage this time around.
“It’s a big challenge for these players, but also a big opportunity,” said Robins, who has also taken midfielder Chris Atkinson, striker Jimmy Spencer and left-back Liam Ridehalgh to Marbella.
“We had to make sure (Under 21 coach) Steve Eyre has enough players to work with back in Huddersfield, but I wanted to take a close look at some of our emerging players.
“We had a glimpse of Jordan Sinnott last season, and if we had managed to secure Championship survival earlier, I wouldn’t have hesitated to blood some of our youngsters.
“It didn’t work out that way, but I certainly want to see the likes of Daniel Carr, Jake Carroll and other development squad members pushing on.
“Financial Fair Play has made developing young players more important than ever, and it’s an area we have significantly invested in.”
While Town return from the Costa del Sol in time for Saturday’s opening pre-season game at Chesterfield, the Under 18s, who also made their Professional Development League II play-offs, have a friendly at Northern Counties East League Premier Division club Brighouse Town tomorrow (7.00).
