HUDDERSFIELD Town's Danny Ward's done Wembley – now all that matters to the winger is winning a League I play-off final at the third attempt.

The 21-year-old tasted the misery of defeat at the national stadium by Millwall when on loan to Swindon in 2010.

And last year, there was further disappointment when Town were beaten 3-0 by Peterborough at Old Trafford.

Now he’s plotting success against Sheffield United – and aiming to set up a Championship reunion with relegated Bolton, who sold him to Town last summer after a successful loan spell at the Galpharm (10 games and four goals).

“I’m lucky enough to have played at Wembley before,” said Ward, who was born in Bradford and had a stint with Leeds before joining Bolton, where he made two Premier League appearances from the bench, three years ago.

“It’s every player’s dream to get there and reaching the final is fantastic for everyone in this town.

“It’s an amazing stadium and with two well-supported clubs there, the atmosphere will be electric.

“It feels brilliant to be going back there, but we all know the job is far from done, and I know from personal experience it’s not a good feeling to lose at Wembley (Swindon went down 1-0 to Town’s semi-final conquerors Millwall two seasons ago).”

Ward has made 44 appearances in all and 34 starts for Town this term, including both previous meetings with Sheffield United (Town won 3-0 at Bramall Lane in September but were beaten 1-0 at home in February).

And he continued: “They are a good side, but we have shown that we have the ability in our squad to beat the best in the division.”

Looking back to Tuesday’s eventful clash with MK Dons, when Town lost 2-1 but held out for a 3-2 aggregate success, Ward, who has notched four goals this season, said: “We played well in the first leg, and knew they would come at us in the second.

“But we battled hard and kept our discipline, and we deserved to win through.”
