Emyr Huws is hoping to bring the September Skybet Championship Player of the Month Award to Huddersfield Town.
The on-loan Wigan Athletic and Wales midfielder will be considered by the judging panel today alongside Blackburn Rovers’ former Town striker Jordan Rhodes, Reading striker Nick Blackman and Middlesbrough defender Daniel Ayala and announced tomorrow.
Here are five reasons why Huws should win the accolade.
1. He is playing in a side struggling for consistency in the Championship
While Ayala and Blackman both undoubtedly had a stellar September, they both play for teams who are reaching the level expected of them, and are sitting in the upper echelons of the table.
Huws has been the stand-out performer in a side returning mixed results.
2. Many teams crave a goalscoring midfielder
Huws has been one.
With others struggling to score regularly, or at all, he has stepped up and notched some crucial strikes.
3. Huws has had further to come than most
The midfielder started the season with an injury.
However he has come to Town and put in the hard yards to ensure he made his comeback sooner than originally planned.
That must be testament to his character.
4. Key position to influence games
It could be argued that the majority of football matches are won and lost in midfield.
Along with Dean Whitehead, Huws has held the Town team together in their run of results before Wolves.
He has also demonstrated a wide array of passing, which has impressed fellow players and pundits alike.
5. Huws is on loan
All the other nominees are regular, established players for their respective clubs.
Huws has had to get to know a new club, teammates and style of play.
