Grant Holt provided the perfect response to Ipswich Town’s boo boys and now has Nottingham Forest in his sights.

The 33-year-old loanee from Wigan Athletic celebrated extending his Town deal to December 28 by playing a key role in the 2-2 fightback draw at Portman Road.

Being a former Norwich City hero, Holt is a prime enemy in Suffolk and knew he was in for a hot reception.

He said of the fixture beforehand ‘I always enjoy playing there’ and as soon as his name was announced beforehand, the boos rang out.

Holt was also taunted when Town were trailing 2-0 with a chant of ‘Holty, Holty, what’s the score’, but he had the last laugh.

Firstly he won the penalty from which strike partner Nahki Wells put Town back in the match, then he beamed with delight as the Bermudian – who had a trial at Ipswich when he first arrived in this country – nodded the equaliser.

“Good point, should have really won it in the end,” said Holt on Twitter.

“I think a few Ipswich fans are now regretting chanting Holty, Holty what’s the score?”

Boss Chris Powell said: “I was pleased we managed to get Grant through the 90 because of his history with Norwich and Ipswich.

“I knew the crowd would try to bait Grant, but he’s experienced enough to deal with that and I’m pleased with the impact he’s made, whether playing on his own or in a two with Nahki.”
