JACK HUNT says Town are in great shape as they plot a first league victory at Hull in 20 years.

Simon Grayson’s 15th-placed side have picked up just two Championship points from the last 15 available.

And the Tigers, under ex-Town manager Steve Bruce, go into Saturday’s clash at the KC Stadium in fourth place after wins at Nottingham Forest and Watford.

Town’s last league victory on Humberside was in Division II (now League I) in October 1992, when Phil Starbuck, Phil Robinson and Iwan Roberts earned a 3-2 success.

But talented right-back Hunt reckons the fighting performance in Saturday’s 2-2 home draw against Bolton bodes well.

After being a goal ahead, Town fell 2-1 behind before James Vaughan levelled late on and Hunt said: “We were disappointed at the way we lost to Middlesbrough and Leeds.

“We never really showed up in the second half of either game, but when we conceded against Bolton, our heads didn’t go down.

“It was a good result in the end. Bolton have got Premier League players. If they turn up they can kill you, but we matched them.”

Hunt earned praise from former Hull managers Brian Horton (who also bossed Town) and Phil Brown, who were at the Bolton game doing media work.

“That’s very nice to hear. They’re great managers, so I’ll take a lot of confidence from that,” added the 22-year-old, who was also watched by Football Association senior scout Jimmy Gilligan.

“I was happy with the way I defended. I know I get some criticism for that area of my game, but I’ve worked on it and I think it’s been the strongest part of my play this season.”

Hull have had a setback as eight-goal top scorer Sone Aluku is struggling in his bid to beat an Achilles tendon injury, and will miss the Town clash.
