James Vaughan cut a relaxed figure on the Huddersfield Town training ground to confirm: “I’m back!”.

Smiling and sharing jokes with his clubmates at Canalside, the 25-year-old leading scorer has provided a tremendous tonic for Mark Robins’ squad ahead of the Championship trip to QPR.

Vaughan – with 12 goals to his name so far – hasn’t played since the goalless draw at Brighton on December 21 because of a knee injury.

He has missed five matches in that time as Town have established themselves in 12th position and signed £1.3m frontman Nahki Wells from Bradford.

But boss Robins admitted: “James has got every chance for the weekend.

“The training we are doing is geared up to him coming back in should he come through unscathed, because he will have had a full week’s training under his belt by then.

“He’s been working with the physios previously, so he’s getting back towards being 100% again.”
