JAMES VAUGHAN would love to follow Huddersfield Town teammate Jermaine Beckford into the Jamaican international squad.

The Birmingham-born player who won four England Under 21 caps qualifies through his grandparents.

Beckford won his first two caps in last month’s World Cup qualifiers at home to Panama, a 1-1 draw, and in Costa Rica, a 2-0 loss.

Each time he was replaced by Town’s on-loan Derby striker Theo Robinson, who now has three caps.

Jamaica, coached by Theodore Whitmore, are bottom of the six-team CONCACAF qualifying group after three of 10 games.

The other nations involved are USA, Honduras and Mexico, with three going automatically to Brazil 2014 and another going into a play-off.

Jamaica must now take advantage of a home double header, against Mexico on June 4 and USA on June 7.

“There has been talk of them looking at me, but no more than that, though I would love to be involved,” said Vaughan.

“I know how much sport means to the people over there, and it would be fantastic to be a part of it.

“Jermaine came back and had nothing but good things to say about his experiences, and it would be brilliant to get a call.”
