Huddersfield Town's Jonathan Hogg has added his name to the list of those who want Danny Ward at the club next season.

Ward is currently in contract talks with Mark Robins after his current deal expires, and did his position no harm with a second half hat-trick at Watford on Saturday.

The three goals put Ward as the second top-scorer for the season, with Robins open to keeping the 23-year old on for longer.

Now Hogg has called for matters to be settled, and wants the hero at Watford to put pen to paper.

“Wardy has scored some good goals for us this year. Hopefully he can get a new contract and stay with us” he said.

“He’s a top player, and the way he hits the ball there aren’t many like him - he’s definitely a good player to have in the team.”

The potential for both the established Ward and the youngster who joined from Kidderminster in January was there to see at Vicarage Road.

However, it was down to an injury to Nahki Wells that pushed both up front, after Ward was sent off the bench.

Should the two play together next campaign, Hogg sees an improvement from this season coming.

“Ward and Lolley are two very good players, Lolley has come in from non-league and we can see what he’s got in training” he added.

“We played well against Watford, to be fair. We didn’t let them play their game, and it made it work for us - we scored some goals and defended quite well.”

Hogg returned in the best way possible to Vicarage Road for the first time since he left Hertfordshire for West Yorkshire last summer.

Although the home support gave him a well deserved clap when his name was announced over the PA, there was little room for sentiment during the game.

However, with warm embraces after the game by some old Watford team-mates, including Lloyd Doyley, there was still affection for Hogg in current Hornets ranks.

And Hogg himself was clearly happy to be back at the club he served between 2011 and last season, after joining them from Aston Villa.

“It’s great to come down here and see the old Watford lads, I’ve seen a lot of friends down here” he added.

“I think my first season has gone quite well, I’ve enjoyed it, I’ve been getting home easier quite a lot, so it’s working well this way.”
