Aussie international defender Jason Davidson signed a three-year deal with Huddersfield Town and said: “I’ve got a point prove in England.”

It’s been an up-and down 12 months for the left-back who played in last year’s World Cup finals in Brazil before signing for West Bromwich Albion.

He helped his country win this year’s Asian Cup on home territory, but had to be satisfied with only five appearances at club level, just two of them in the Premier League.

Davidson, who played his junior football in Japan and has also had spells in Portugal and Holland, joins Town after being released halfway through his Albion contact.

The 18-times capped player flew back from international duty in Kyrgyzstan to talk to Town chairman Dean Hoyle and manager Chris Powell.

“I wanted to stay in England, because I love the passion for the game over here,” he explained.

“I had a few offers to consider, but I had heard good things about this club and the talks I had reinforced my view.

“Both the chairman and manager made me feel welcome straight away and they made me feel wanted.

“I like the way Town are community-orientated and I think that as a former England left-back, the manager can teach me a lot. The club have really won me over.”

Melbourne-born Davidson, who played for Portuguese side Pacos de Ferreira and Holland’s Herecles and is Town’s third Australian player after Scott McDonald and Dean Heffernan, added: “I’ve left West Brom on good terms, and I’m fully focused on getting ready for the new season..

“I need to be playng on a regular basis.”

The son of ex-Australia midfielder Alan Davidson, he will join up with his new teammates, including freshly-recruited former Middlesbrough midfielder Dean Whitehead, next Wednesday.
