Huddersfield Town be warned – Burnley are only going to get better.

That’s the claim from Clarets boss Sean Dyche ahead of Saturday’s trans-Pennine Championship clash at Turf Moor.

Dyche, seeking an immediate return to the Premier League after last season’s relegation, has led his side to third place.

Saturday’s 1-0 win at arch-rivals Blackburn Rovers, sealed by former Town midfielder Scott Arfield, was a third in four games.

And the former Watford boss, who has been linked with the vacancy at Aston Villa, insisted: “We still think we can improve, the on-pitch relationships, know how, getting used to new players.

“But we are certainly going along strongly, and the supporters saw the players give everything.

“That is a marker and you remember when I walked in three years ago I said the only thing I can guarantee is that the players will always give everything to the cause — and we saw that.”

The new players Dyche, 44, referred to include Joey Barton and Andre Gray.

Ex-Manchester City, Newcastle United and England midfielder Barton, 33, joined Burnley after his release by QPR.

Gray was a £9m signing from Brentford in the wake of fellow striker Danny Ings’ move to Liverpool.

The former Luton Town and Shrewsbury Town player, 24, has notched four times in eight games.

Dyche has further firepower in the shape of ex-Everton striker Chris Long.

The 20-year-old close-season recruit was loaned to Brentford last season.

He scored twice against Town in the Bees’ 4-1 win at Griffin Park in March.

Dyche added to his defensive options by bringing in Tendayi Darikwa from Chesterfield and Matthew Lowton from Aston Villa.
