HUDDERSFIELD Town's Simon Church came out on top in the clash of the debutants to show Barnsley fans what they are missing.

The Reds, who are just a place above the Championship relegation zone after a fourth straight defeat at the hands of Town, were reported to be keen to take the Reading and Wales striker on loan.

However the 23-year-old, who helped the Royals wins promotion to the Premier League last season, has agreed an initial month-long move to the John Smith’s Stadium club.

And while Egyptian international Mido, the former Tottenham and Middlesbrough star, disappointed on his long-awaited debut for Barnsley, Church caught the eye, and supplied the cross for fellow loanee Jermaine Beckford to head Town’s 36th-minute winner.

An eighth win for Simon Grayson’s side, and fourth away from home, was witnessed by 3,967 Town fans in a 12,130 derby crowd, 175 of whom had walked to Oakwell to raise money for the Keep It Up campaign.

“Sean Morrison (Church’s Reading teammate who was on loan at Town last season) told me what a great set of fans Huddersfield have, and he’s right,” added Church, whose stay runs for five more matches.

Church started playing down the right before switching to the centre and explained: “Lee Novak got two goals in the previous game so it would have been tough on him to change things.

“The manager told me to enjoy myself and try to score goals, and that’s music to my ears.
