Huddersfield Town defender Paul Dixon is being linked with a return to Dundee United.

The Scotland international left-back is currently behind on-loan QPR player Jack Robinson in the pecking order at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Dixon had four years at Tannadice before joining Town in 2012. He started his career at United’s city rivals Dundee.

The 28-year-old, out of contract at Town in the summer, has been limited to 13 appearances this season and has made 92 for the club overall.

Dixon has three Scotland caps, all won during his time at Town.

United, fourth in the Scottish Premiership and preparing for a League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen at Hampden on Saturday, have been seeking an experienced left-back since Andrew Robertson joined Hull City in a £3m move in July.

They currently have Conor Townsend on a season-long loan from Hull.

Town, who gave a trial to Irish left-back Anthony O’Donnell in this week’s development game against Sheffield United, have been linked with United’s Turkish striker Nadir Ciftci.

Four players, Lee Peltier (to Cardiff City), Martin Paterson (Orlando City), Danny Ward (Rotherham United) and Jon Stead (Bradford City) have left Town this month while Adam Hammill has been loaned to Rotherham.

So far, boss Chris Powell has made one signing, defender or midfielder David Edgar on loan from Birmingham City, who made his debut in the 1-0 win at Wigan Athletic.
