MARK HUDSON will make his 50th Town appearance against Carlisle on Saturday with manager Peter Jackson urging: "Fill Gary Taylor-Fletcher's boots."

Eight-goal top scorer Taylor-Fletcher is sidelined for at least a month by a knee injury picked up during the 1-0 League I derby win at Bradford.

But it was Hudson, who had a spell on loan at Carlisle while a Middlesbrough player, who got the all-important goal at Valley Parade last Saturday.

And the Town chief believes there are more to come from the former Chesterfield man.

"Mark hasn't been a prolific scorer in the past (he has 15 in his career, five of them for Town), but he's developing an appetite for them," said Jackson.

"He has got two this season and has had a host more chances.

"He's getting himself into good scoring positions, and if you do that, the goals will come.

"His goal at Bradford was a beauty. He timed his run into the box, rose well and got direction and pace on a header which gave the keeper no chance."

It's not just Hudson's goals which have pleased the boss, who recruited the 25-year-old North-Easterner (right) from Saltergate the close-season before last.

"I've been impressed with his approach over the last four weeks," he added.

"Like a lot of the team, he's had a little bit of stick from some sections, but he's never hidden.

"Playing the five-man midfield system in recent away games has helped him, because he's been able to get forward that bit more, and he's attacking with confidence."

Town, who are 13th, are missing injured David Mirfin and suspended Danny Adams for the visit of Carlisle, who are eighth, but have lost their last two games.

Jackson, whose side are unbeaten in four matches, hopes to have striker Andy Booth available after a hamstring strain.
