HTSA have a new chairman following the annual meeting.

The meeting marked the retirement of Steve King as Chair after four years of progress.

HTSA is grateful to Steve for his contribution and pleased that he will continue as a Board member.

Ian Lawrence is now the new Chair of HTSA and another change sees Trev Whitehead take over the Secretary’s role from Robert Pepper. John Sealey continues as Treasurer.

The Treasurer reported that the last financial year (ending May 31) had seen HTSA’s finances record a deficit of £821, as opposed to a surplus of £1,247 for the previous financial year.

While this is a disappointing outcome, there were a number of external factors which affected our performance this year and John concluded his report with: “Although we had a challenging year, the HTSA finances still remain in good shape.

“We are confident that the plans in place for the new season will improve our financial situation year on year.”

The accounts were duly approved.

The AGM was followed by a fascinating insight into the set-up at Huddersfield Town Ladies, when David Mallin (HTLFC Chair) led a Q&A with Ashley Vickers (assistant manager), Kate

Mallin (captain), Emily Heckler (vice captain and top goalscorer) and Laura Carter (goalkeeper).

The financial gap between Men’s and Women’s football is immense. The players actually pay a subscription to play!

The dedication and commitment of everyone connected with HTLFC can only be admired.

Their home ground is Storthes Hall with facilities much improved over what was available when the HTFC Academy played there.

The football is high quality and the honesty of it is a welcome surprise in this day and age. Entrance is only £3 so why not sample it for yourself this Sunday with a 2 pm kick-off?
