Chris Powell admits he’s dreaming of the day when he can guide Huddersfield Town into a challenging Championship position.

The 45-year-old has been at the John Smith’s Stadium for only two months, but he can sense good things developing and would love to deliver some success for the fans.

Six matches unbeaten going into the home clash with Nottingham Forest, Londoner Powell already feels welcome as an ‘honorary Yorkshireman’ and knows that with only six points separating Town from the play-off placing, opportunity beckons.

“You have to embed yourself in your club as quickly as you can and you’ve got to feel exactly what the fans are feeling – and let them know that’s what you are feeling,” he said.

“You have to engage with the club, the players and everyone and that’s especially so when you come to a place and an area that you don’t really know.

“The support I have had, especially of late, shows the fans know exactly how I feel about them and their club – and I want it to be our club.

“I want everyone to share in that and, at Blackburn and at Ipswich, we didn’t win either game but the support afterwards was almost as if we had.

“I like that. And I think it’s important the players and fan realise it’s not just about their backing, but that everyone realises what we are trying to do.

“We won’t always get it right, but I think the fans can now see a group of players who care. I won’t have anything less that players giving their all for the cause.”
