APOLOGETIC Chris Brandon has vowed to atone for his slip-up at Swansea by driving Town to a derby victory over Doncaster.

Dave Penney's side, 10th in League I after a 1-1 weekend draw at Hartlepool, are next in line for Peter Jackson's promotion chasers at the Galpharm on Saturday.

Town, who remained second after favourable results, are eager to build on a battling second-half show in Friday's 2-2 draw at Swansea.

Late goals by Martin McIntosh and David Graham salvaged the point after a dismal first-half showing and a penalty miss by Brandon.

"If I'd scored, we might well have gone on to win down there, and I've apologised to the lads," said the midfielder, whose 48th-minute effort hit the underside of the bar.

"Some of the boys said it crossed the line after bouncing down, but I couldn't see from where I was. What I do know is that I hit the ball too high and I'm gutted."

It remains to be seen whether Brandon, who scored the winner from the spot at Blackpool earlier this month, retains the 12-yard duties, but one thing the 29-year-old is certain of is that Town can play much better than they did at the Liberty Stadium.

"We were atrocious in the first half, and we deserved the rollicking we got at half-time," he said. "We came back out and worked hard to get the draw, but I can't help wondering what might have been had I put away the penalty.

"I've got to accept that it's gone now, and the aim is to put right what we did wrong against Doncaster."

Town defender Tom Clarke, on the bench at Swansea, is on stand-by for England's Under 19 clash with Slovakia at Northampton tomorrow.
